'Birdhouse 1 and 2' 2022
Wood (OSB chipboard and pine dowel) and spray paint
This residence led to an exhibition of undergraduate work at the Whitaker Museum & Art Gallery following its multi-million-pound refurbishment. The exhibition included the University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan University students' work produced over a 10-week residency.
The exhibition included the University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan University students' work produced over the 10-week residency. My series of work was focused on the incredible taxidermy collection at the Whitaker, both on display and housed within the collections. In this project, I produced a photobook called 'The Birdhouse' with images of all the birds in storage. I also engraved three of my photographs on 420mm x 594mm on wooden pine boards, exploring the idea of nature and engraving the once-living birds on what was once a tree; I also produced two birdhouses purchased by the museum and added them to the collection. The birdhouses are currently on public display.
